Final at Home
Matthieu Otto represents the host nation France at the Bocuse d’Or. His trip to Lyon isn’t a long one. Still, the top chef has no time. Alright: almost no time. A conversation via Whatsapp.

Hi Matthieu, this is MPULSE.
Hi to Germany. Are you doing alright?
😊 Actually, we wanted to ask you the same thing. 😁 The finals are about to start …
Right 😊 Yes, I feel great! I’m happy, excited … and highly motivated … all at the same time. I think the team is feeling the same way. We all are really enjoying the experience. The Bocuse d’Or is a great adventure!
Especially as you compete at home representing France. What are your expectations going into the finals?
We have a clear goal in mind … I hope this answer will suffice 😉 We’ll give it our best shot on both days! We need to be on our toes all the time … A lot can happen during the event.
How do you manage it all: the demanding training hours on top of your daily work?
It’s only possible when you have a good plan. And we do have one! That’s why I’m quite relaxed about the competition.
What really helps to cope with stress … is our amazing support team: We’re surrounded by the leaders of Team France and a great psychological coach all day long.
Sounds like you’re able to keep your balance!?
You know, I have to say: I feel like I’m even more confident and more structured in interacting with other chefs, the media and our partners since we’re preparing for the Bocuse d’Or.
I’ve become more and more aware of how essential it is for a good leader to be able to motivate his troops, to trust his team mates, to communicate with them … and most importantly: to express gratitude.
METRO France accompanies you on your way. What does this support mean to you?
A lot! 🙌 We owe it in part to METRO that we are at peace with ourselves and can enter the competition this calm 👌 The Bocuse d’Or and the preparation require excellent logistics. This is where METRO is a tremendous help.
Participant in the world final 😱😜 of the Bocuse d’Or… What does this mean for your career?
I’m 100 per cent focused on the competition right now. So, I’m not thinking about what might come afterwards.
Makes sense 😉 Matthieu, we keep our fingers crossed! Thank you for the interview 😊
Thx! 😊 My pleasure!
The Bocuse d'Or 2019 will take place in Lyon on 29 and 30 January. Every two years, top chefs from all over the world compete for bronze, silver and gold. This year, representatives from 24 nations will be competing to prepare a starter and a main course of their choice in five hours and 35 minutes. As one of the main sponsors, METRO will exclusively supply four selected seafood ingredients and a wide range of vegetables for the 17th World Final. The 24 finalists will create a dish with the theme 'Chartreuse vegetables with shellfish'.
On the occasion of the international cooking competition "Bocuse d'Or" there is an interview with the Berlin star chef Marco Müller. He talks about food culture, top gastronomy, the challenges that gastronomes face today and what support he would like to receive from politicians.
